The people speak of a time when their valley was a paradise, where Men and Elves and
Dwarves lived in harmony, united by their Prince within his fabled palace. No Crown did
the Prince wear. He did not need one. The palace itself was the most potent symbol of all
that was strong and spirited in the valley. Finally, a day came when all this legendary
wealth became the prize of a warlord and his army. While they burned villages and murdered
the peasantry, a curse fell over the palace itself, which even the fell army of evil dared
not enter. In the end, all lay on the field, dead, and the palace remained silent and
filled with fear. Even to this day, dark windows on its face look out into the valley,
watching for any living prey who would dare to approach it.
